Protectors or bedding? Read this first

Only one layer of your bed actually stops dust mites.

Sneezing before your eyes even open. A nose that never clears. Skin that itches all night. A child who scratches until they bleed.

Most people do not realise the problem is not their sheets. Dust mites live deep inside mattresses, pillows and duvets, and washing at 60 degrees will never reach them. That is why hot washes, hoovering and antihistamines stop working.

Start with protectors. Bedding goes on top afterwards.

Summer Sale now on: the full protector set from £219, was £299.

Recommended by allergy doctors. Chosen by NHS nurses for their own beds. 1 year guarantee, 30 day returns, UK delivery in 1 to 3 working days.

Your bed, bottom to top

The 5 micron layer is the one that does the work.

This is the question we get on nearly every phone call. Here is the whole answer in one picture.

Layer 4

Your own sheets and duvet cover

Keep using whatever you already own. Most of our customers do. Wash at 60 degrees weekly.

Optional
Layer 3

Anti dust mite bedding

A 40 micron ultra tight weave. Softer, cooler, and slower to collect allergens than normal cotton. A comfort and maintenance upgrade, not the barrier.

40 micron
Layer 2 · the barrier

Zip sealed protectors on mattress, pillows and duvet

A 5 micron pore, sealed on all six sides with a full zip. Dust mites cannot get through it and cannot get out. This is the layer that stops the exposure. Nothing above it works without it.

5 micron
Layer 1

Your mattress, pillows and duvet

Years of dead skin cells. This is where the mites live, feed and leave the droppings your skin and airways react to. You cannot wash it and you do not need to replace it.

The problem
Two white bedding fabrics stacked: the looser 40 micron bedding weave above, the sealed 5 micron zip protector below.
Top: the 40 micron bedding weave. Bottom: the 5 micron zip sealed protector. Same colour, completely different job.

A dust mite is roughly 200 to 400 microns. A 5 micron pore blocks 100% of dust mites and their droppings. A 40 micron weave does not, which is why bedding alone is not a treatment.

Why sealing beats cleaning

You are not trying to clean the mattress. You are trying to cut it off.

01

Sealed, not covered

A fitted top sheet leaves five sides open. Our protectors zip closed around the whole mattress so there is no route in and no route out.

02

5 micron, and still breathable

Tight enough to block 100% of dust mites and their droppings. Open enough for air and moisture, so the bed does not sleep hot or sweaty.

03

Quiet enough to sleep on

Most sealed protectors crackle. Ours are eucalyptus silk, so there is no crinkle, no crunch and nothing plasticky under the sheet.

The six questions we get asked every day

Answered before you buy.

What is the difference between the protectors and the bedding?
The protectors are the barrier. A 5 micron pore, zip sealed on all six sides, sitting directly on your mattress, pillows and duvet to block 100% of dust mites. The bedding is a 40 micron weave that goes on top for comfort and to slow allergen build up. If you only buy one thing, buy the protectors. Bedding without protectors will not stop your exposure.
Do I need to clean or replace my mattress first?
No. Put the protector straight on. Once it is sealed, everything living inside the mattress is shut in and cut off from your skin. You do not need to deep clean it, treat it or throw it away.
How do I wash it, and how often?
Protectors need vacuuming or washing roughly once a month. Bedding and your own sheets go at 60 degrees weekly. Do not tumble dry any of it. That is the whole routine. No daily hoovering, no sprays, no stripping the bed every other day.
Can I keep my own sheets and duvet cover on top?
Yes, and most people do. The protectors are designed to disappear under whatever bedding you already own.
Will it fit my bed? I have a deep mattress and zip together beds.
Almost certainly. We stock deep mattress depths up to 45cm, super king and cot bed, and we can advise on zip together beds and oversized pillows. If your bed is unusual, call 0330 122 1646 before you order and we will confirm the size with you.
What about things I cannot wash at 60 degrees?
Freeze it for 24 hours in a sealed bag, or soak it. That kills dust mites in delicate items where a hot wash would ruin them. Wool, silk and cushions with foam inners all fall into this group.

Seal the bed first. Everything else is optional.
