Is your divan or fabric bed making your dust mite allergy worse?

Almost certainly, yes. If you have already sealed your mattress, pillows and duvet and you still wake up blocked, itchy or streaming, the bed base underneath is the usual reason. It is the one part of the bed you cannot encase, it has never been cleaned, and it sits directly under you every night.

A divan box, an upholstered frame, an ottoman base or a set of wooden slats is a mattress-sized dust mite habitat. This frame replaces it with smooth, sealed steel that mites cannot live on and dust cannot cling to. Nothing to wash, nothing to seal, nothing left for them to feed on.

What bed is best for a dust mite allergy?

Dust mites need three things: fibres to burrow into, moisture held in the material, and undisturbed dust to feed on. Every conventional bed base gives them all three. Sealed steel gives them none.

Their allergens rise straight up through the mattress while you sleep. That is why people encase everything and still wake up congested. Replacing the base removes the reservoir instead of covering it.

⌄ Why a metal bed frame is not automatically dust mite proof

Most metal beds are sprayed over raw steel. The paint chips, the surface pits, and those rough patches hold dust and moisture the same way fabric does, only smaller. A cheap metal frame solves the fabric problem and quietly creates a new one.

Ours goes through four stages before the coat is applied — pickling, phosphating, degreasing and dust removal — so the coating bonds to clean steel and cures to a smooth, non-porous, sealed surface. The result:

  • Nothing for dust to grip — one pass of a cloth clears a bar
  • Nothing for mites to burrow into or feed on
  • Does not absorb moisture, resists rust in humid bedrooms
  • Does not chip or peel, so the surface stays sealed for years

The frame removes the reservoir underneath. The mattress, pillows and duvet on top of it still need sealing, because that is where mites feed on the skin cells you shed overnight.

Everything you need to know about dust mite protection.

Most solutions treat the symptoms, not the cause. Dust mites live inside your mattress, pillow and duvet, and sprays or antihistamines can't reach them there. Our encasements physically seal your bedding with a precision zip, blocking 99.97% of allergens from reaching you every night. It is a permanent fix, not a workaround.

Yes. Those symptoms are caused by allergens you breathe in while you sleep. By sealing your mattress, pillows and duvet, you cut off that exposure completely. Most customers notice a real difference within two to four weeks. Many tell us it is the first thing that has actually worked.

No chemicals at all. Our eucalyptus silk fabric is woven so tightly that the pores measure around 5 microns, which is small enough to stop dust mites and their allergen particles from getting through. It works purely through the fabric structure, so it never washes out. All materials are OEKO-TEX certified and safe for sensitive skin.

Not at all. Once you encase your mattress, the allergens inside are sealed away from you. Your existing mattress, pillow and duvet are all fine to use. No need to throw anything out or buy new bedding first.

Absolutely. All materials are OEKO-TEX certified and safe for children, including those with eczema or asthma. We include a Cot Bed size in this set. Encasing your child's bed is one of the most recommended steps by allergists for reducing symptoms without relying on medication.

The barrier works from night one. Most people start noticing less congestion and irritation within one to two weeks, with a clearer improvement by the end of the first month. The more of your sleeping area you protect, the faster you tend to feel it.

Wash them once a month at 60 degrees and let them air dry. Do not tumble dry. The barrier does not degrade with washing because it is built into the fabric structure. Your bedding on top should be washed weekly at 60 degrees as part of your normal routine.

We offer Cot Bed, Single, Double, King and Super King. If your mattress falls between sizes, go up to the next one. It still gives you full protection and is easier to fit. Our standard encasement suits mattresses between 10 and 30cm deep. For mattresses between 30 and 45cm, you will need our deep fit version which is listed separately on the site.
