Why eucalyptus silk is best for dust mites

Eucalyptus silk naturally helps repel dust mites by reducing the warm, damp conditions they need to thrive.

It has excellent moisture-wicking and breathability, helping keep bedding drier throughout the night.

Our 1,000 thread count eucalyptus silk, woven in a tight percale weave, creates a dense fabric structure that helps block dust mites while staying smooth and gentle on sensitive skin.

How It Works

The layer your face rests on, and how it works with the protector underneath:

A zipped pillow protector seals your pillow on all sides, trapping the dust mites and allergen already inside it so they cannot reach you.

This 40 micron eucalyptus silk case covers the protector. It is smooth against your skin, far tighter woven than ordinary cotton, and it is the surface your face actually touches all night.

Skin cells cannot settle into a loose weave and mites cannot work their way up from the pillow. There is no chemical treatment involved, it is the fabric structure doing the work, so nothing washes out.

60 degrees is the temperature that kills dust mites. Because the case is what you strip and wash each week, the sealed protector underneath stays undisturbed and only needs washing every one to three months.

Not on their own, and we would rather tell you that up front. These are bedding, the top layer that touches your face. They are woven to a 40 micron barrier, far tighter than ordinary cotton, but the layer that actually seals dust mites in is a fully zipped pillow protector underneath. If you only buy one thing for your pillows, buy the protector first and add these on top.

The protector is a fully zipped encasement with a 5 micron barrier. It goes directly onto your pillow, seals it on all sides, and traps the mites and allergen already inside so they cannot reach you. These pillowcases go over the top. They are 40 micron eucalyptus silk, softer against your face, and they are what you wash weekly. The protector seals, the pillowcase covers. You want both.

They do two useful things. Your face is against this layer for eight hours a night, so it is worth that layer being smooth eucalyptus silk rather than ordinary cotton with a looser weave. And washing a pillowcase weekly at 60 degrees is far easier than stripping and washing a protector, so the protector underneath stays sealed and undisturbed for longer.

The order that makes the biggest difference is mattress protector first, encasing all six sides, then pillow and duvet protectors, then the bedding layer on top. Your mattress is by far the largest dust mite reservoir in the room, so sealing it is where most of the relief comes from. The Protector Set covers mattress, pillows and duvet in one go, and it is the step most customers take before adding bedding.

If you are replacing your bedding anyway, yes. The bedding set is the fitted sheet, duvet cover and two pillowcases in the same eucalyptus silk, so the whole surface your skin touches is the same fabric rather than just the pillows. Parents buying for a child with eczema usually start with a sealed pillow protector, because that is what stops the exposure, and use these pillowcases over the top for softness and easy weekly washing.

They are 1,000 thread count eucalyptus silk, OEKO-TEX certified. No, they do not feel plasticky or crinkly. That is the usual complaint about cheaper anti allergy bedding and it is exactly why we use eucalyptus silk. It is smooth and quiet with no crunch when you move at night, which customers with sensory sensitivity tell us matters more than anything else.
