Our protector encases all six sides with a 5 micron weave and a sealed zip, so mites already inside are trapped and killed off, and no new ones get in. It is the only product on this list that treats the whole room rather than one surface. The honest catch: it only works with the windows kept shut for most of the day. If you love sleeping with the window open, skip this and put the money into bedding protection instead.

Option 1: wash the entire pillow at 60 degrees every week, which kills 100% of the mites inside. The catch is that most pillows cannot take 60 degrees. Ours can, which is exactly why we make them. Option 2: seal it once with a protector and simply wash the protector every 1 to 3 months. Most people choose the protector, because weekly pillow washing rarely survives real life. Your normal pillowcase goes over the top either way.

Option 1: machine wash the whole duvet at 60 degrees every week to kill 100% of the mites in it. Most duvets cannot take that temperature. Our anti dust mite duvets can, so if you prefer washing to sealing, that route is open. Option 2: seal it once with a protector and wash the protector every 1 to 3 months, while the cover on top gets the normal weekly wash. Most homes choose the protector because weekly duvet washing rarely lasts past the first month. Ours is a breathable eucalyptus silk feel, not the crinkly plastic you may have met before.

Here is the item most guides miss. If your bed has a fabric headboard, an upholstered base or a divan, there is a mite habitat sitting directly underneath your freshly sealed mattress: soft, warm and impossible to encase. A zero fabric steel frame removes that habitat completely and wipes clean in seconds.

The honest flip side: if you already sleep on a plain metal or wooden frame, you do not need this. Skip it and spend nothing here.

This is the layer you actually sleep on. It is designed to go on top of the protectors, wash easily at 60 degrees every week to kill anything that lands on it, and stay soft against irritated skin. Honest limits first: no vacuum reaches the mites living deep inside a mattress, that is the protector's job. What a HEPA vacuum does brilliantly is remove the allergen waste from the surfaces mites also live on: the sofa, the curtains, the car seats, the mattress surface before you fit the protector. A standard vacuum blows the microscopic allergen straight back into the air. HEPA filtration captures it.

Natural Dust Mite Killer Spray (Eucalyptus)

The spray kills mites on contact on fabrics, rugs and soft furnishings, and it is the cheapest thing on this list. I will be straight with you though: spray is short-term relief, not a solution. Mites breed faster than you can spray. Use it on the sofa, the car and the soft toys while the protectors and dehumidifier do the permanent work.

Air Purifier

Surprised to see this so low? We sell air purifiers, and we still talk most customers out of buying one. Here is why: dust mite allergen is heavy and settles onto surfaces quickly, so a purifier only catches a fraction of it, and the airflow can even stir settled allergen back up into the air you breathe. If your budget is limited, a purifier is the wrong place for it.

Who it genuinely helps: people with all-day airborne symptoms, homes with pets or pollen allergies on top of dust mites, and rooms where humidity control is not possible. Even then, only after the bed is sealed.
